Climber
Canadian Rockies

Black bear cubs learn to climb as soon as they get out of the winter den. Climbing is their best defense against predators such as wolves and other bears. Black bear sows teach their young cubs to climb the nearest tree as soon as she gives the warning. Sometimes the mother puts the cubs up a tree so she can eat in peace and not have to be on alert the entire time she's feeding.

This cinnamon-colored black bear cub will likely maintain its fur color for the rest of its life.
